News and Notes 07/17/2016

Please take time to register your attendance with us this morning by filling out one of the blue attendance cards located in the pew card holder and placing it in the offering plate during the offering.

We send our thankyou’s to Rickey and Eric Melde for installing power and doing the prep work of pulling necessary cables so that Ford Audio could come in and move of our sound system to the new sound room.  What a hot job they had which included crawling in small attic spaces.  Please take time to share a thank you with them the next time you see themThank you guys!

A thank you also to Mine Services for their assistance with cutting and mulching the selected trees on the two lots owned by the church on 4th street.  The utilization of their equipment made ease of a tough job.  Thank you for your generosity and assistance.

During the busyness of the summer months don’t forget the needs of your church.  This year the Lord has blessed St. Paul with over a million dollar budget—that’s a lot of ministry!  But with school out for the summer that means we lose almost half of our income.  Payroll alone is about $50,000 per month.  As always, thank you for your faithful support.

The church and school office will be observing the following summer hours: Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon.  No office hours on Fridays.  In case of an emergency outside of these hours, please contact either Pastor Kalbas or Pastor Schaller.

St. Paul Lutheran Church & School is currently seeking to fill our Kindergarten teaching position.  If you or someone you know is interested in the position, please contact Mr. Moss at the office, 512-898-2711.  Anyone who is interested in the kindergarten position should drop off a resume at the office by Wednesday, July 20.  Resumes can also be e-mailed to

A reminder to those students serving as acolytes keep your eye on the scheduled calendar as it runs through the summer months. Scheduled acolytes are also included with those serving in various capacities towards the back of the bulletin.  If you are unable to fulfill your obligation, please find someone to switch days with you.

Registration for next school year is still going strong!  We continue to receive calls and share St. Paul with new families, including many with Pre-K students.  Please continue to share the good news of St. Paul, and encourage your family and friends to consider becoming a St. Paul Lion!

Thank you to everyone who donated to our VBS mission projects.  All our donations have now been totaled and we are excited to make the following donations:
Thorndale Cares – $200.00 and 50 food items
Thorndale Police Department’s Silver Santa Program – $200.00 and two cases of water

  • The Church Receives an Unlikely Convert
  • The Church Affirms Gentile Converts as Equals with Jews
  • The Church Thrives Despite Persecution

Acts Part 2 covers Acts 13-28 and includes:

  • A Step Toward World Evangelization
  • Agreeing That All Nations Are Included
  • The Gospel is Received and Rejected
  • Getting the Message Straight
  • A Ministry of Miracles
  • Defending the Ministry – Part 1
  • Defending the Ministry – Part 2
  • The Catastrophic Voyage to Rome
  • The Gospel Comes to Rome

Join us on Tuesday mornings at 10 am in the East Wing starting August 16 for this in-depth study of Acts.  A small group discussion will be led by Darlene Waiser and a large group lecture by Pastor Kalbas.  Study guides are $10.  Please register with the church office, Darlene or Pastor Kalbas by July 25 so that materials can be ordered and distributed the week before the study begins.

Our congregation is invited to attend the Homecoming Service of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  The theme to the service is “Stepping Into God’s Plan (Our Destiny) and will be held Sunday, August 7 at 3:00 pm at 107 East Church St. here in Thorndale.

Join us for lunch and a visit with Pastor Jim and Evie Mann.  The outing is scheduled for Thursday, July 21st.  We will meet at the church parking at 10:30 am to carpool over to Dos Salsas Mexican Food Restaurant in Cedar Park.  The Mann’s will meet us there.  After lunch, we will go by their house for a visit.  The Mann’s said to “bring your swim suits” if you want to cool off in their pool.  Everyone is welcomed to come along.  If you are unable to carpool but still want to join us, please contact Pat Simank at 512/966-1712 for directions and addresses.

Kristi Fischer and Roland “Jimmy” Gonzales request the pleasure of your company at the celebration of their wedding on July 23rd at 3:30pm. The ceremony is at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale. We would love for you to come and share in our joy!

The Thorndale Café located at 118 S. Main Street has pledged to donate 10% of your dining expense back to St. Paul.  Just remember to ask for a receipt and turn it in to the Central Ministry Office or to Carol Wuensche

There’s only TWO WEEKS left to sign up for your family photo for the new church directory.  Please take time to stop by the table on the church lawn or visit the church website to register online.  It would be really great if we didn’t have to develop a team to make phone calls to finish out our scheduling.  Your smile in our directory is so very important.

Our family photo sessions will take place as follows:

Week One

Dates:    Tuesday, August 2 – Friday, August 5        Times:  2:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Saturday, August 6                               Times:  10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Week Two

Dates:  Tuesday, August 9 – Friday, August 12        Times: 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Saturday, August 13                                    Times: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Week Three

Dates: Thursday, August 18 – Friday, August 19     Times: 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Saturday, August 20                             Times: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

If you need assistance with signing up online please call Teresa Ging at the church office, 512/898-2711.    Please share this information with your immediate families and fellow church and school families.  Also, there will be some automated phone calls being sent out…please take time to listen to the message.

Many time slots are still available for your family’s photo if you’ve not signed up yet.  Remember there is no cost to you or our church and each participating family will receive a complimentary 8×10 portrait and directory.  Our directory will not be complete without you in it.  The directory is so useful to you as a member of the congregation.  It helps us all to put names to faces and provides current address and telephone information.

We are also in need of some volunteers.  If you would be willing to assist with helping sign families up for their photo session please contact Tammy Pickett at 512/269-3598.  This will be taking place between and after services on Sunday mornings.  If you would like to serve as a greeter during the family photo sessions in August, please contact Darlene Waiser at 979/575-8987.

Both are great opportunities to serve your congregation…best of all it’s a short term commitment.  Stay tuned…more details will be coming out in the very near future.  If you have any questions regarding the directory process please contact Teresa Ging at 512/924-0151 or 512/898-2711.
